L'auteur Ellie Jackson, mère de quatre enfants, a écrit une série de livres pour aider à éduquer les enfants sur l'impact des plastiques sur les écosystèmes océaniques.
Ellie Jackson, qui vit au bord de la mer à Looe, Cornwall, a écrit son premier livre alors qu'elle vivait en Australie. Il a été inspiré par une année passée sur une île tropicale, au cours de laquelle elle et sa famille ont vu une tortue être relâchée dans l'océan après un an de traitement pour ingestion de plastique.
Mes enfants et moi avons été fascinés par la vue de cette belle créature en cours de libération, et nous avons ensuite visité un hôpital pour tortues sur le continent pour en savoir plus. Une fois que mes enfants ont fait le lien entre les plastiques et les tortues, ils étaient obsédés par le nettoyage des déchets des plages afin de pouvoir aider à protéger les tortues et autres espèces marines.
De cette façon, Ellie, une scientifique environnementale qui a enseigné la géographie pendant six ans, a conçu son idée d'utiliser les livres pour enfants comme un moyen d'éduquer les jeunes sur la menace pour la vie marine de notre dépendance au plastique.
